Definitions
Ultimate Tensile Strength
The
ultimate tensile strength is the maximum stress that the material can withstand before breaking.
The higher the tensile strength, the more resistant the material is to breaking.
Results are reported in megapascals (MPa).
Young's Modulus
The
Young's modulus is the slope of the stress-strain curve.
The higher the Young's modulus, the more resistant the material is to deformation.
Results are reported in pascals.
Normalize by Cost
Cost normalized values are reported in units of megapascals (MPa) per dollar ($) per kilogram (kg).
A higher cost-normalized value corresponds to a greater material strength per dollar. Costs were calculated using the price of the material at writing.
Left Out Wet
Annealed
The physical properties of certain materials can be improved by gently heating them over a long period of time in a process called annealing. Filaments marked with the (Annealed) tag were annealed according to the manufacturers instructions.
Printed New / Dried Before Printing
Sometimes you can't print a material immediately after opening the package.
To test this, we printed some test coupons after leaving the roll of filament out in an open, humid environment.
The time we left filaments varied.
We tested some filaments by printing the coupon without drying in a filament dryer and with drying in a filament dryer.

Methodology
Reported results are the average of 4 tests on each material performed at room temperature on
ASTM D638 type V coupons printed for maximum strength with the layer lines parallel to the axis of the test.
Materials that are susceptible to water absorption were tested both dry and wet.
